Thick, fluffy clouds hang low in the sky above rain moistened roads in Saturday afternoon traffic. A quick snapshot of downtown Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, one of the few thriving small towns thanks to its renowned University.
This covered bridge acts as a gateway to a tour of back roads in little-known Northumberland county in Northeastern Pennsylvania. The well-maintained, red covered bridge with bright yellow warning signs stand out against the rich greens of the spring foliage. The gravel track visible through the bridge portends the relaxed adventure as it winds away into the forested hills.
Something about the words on the buildings stuck out to me. The hint of a tank, the criss-crossing power lines. Cattle. Arena. And a huge parking lot stretching between me and the buildings. Very rural America. Take that as you will.
For those unfamiliar with Pennsylvania, we have a wide variety of delicious foods that are native to many areas of the world and fused with American style. This is an example of a Polish kielbasa grilled, put in a good hard roll, and topped with sauerkraut that’s been fried with peppers and onions. It’s one of the best hot sandwiches I’ve had in a long time. This masterpiece was made by Dymski Pierogies.
The fog clings to the trees as the spring rain prepares the ground. Nature in the background juxtaposed with the dirtiest form of freight hauling in the foreground. It’s like Mother Nature weeping and nourishing and grieving all at once.
I used steady hands and total concentration to capture this bucolic highway at sundown lit with hues of baby blue, yellow, and pink of the setting sun.
